THE Les Kelly stable is the subject of a pending stewards inquiry after an incident at the Gold Coast on Wednesday led to a horse being withdrawn from its scheduled race. Stewards opened an inquiry after QRIC’s Integrity Investigations Team (IIT) reported what they believed to be “suspicious activity” at Kelly’s stables.

It is alleged a licensed stable hand, Billy Xantos, was preparing to administer a substance to She’s A Youeffoh before her event, Race 3 on the card. It is understood the IIT team found Xantos with Gastrazone (a medication used in the treatment of stomach ulcers) and in his other hand an applicator, or syringe.

She’s A Youeffoh was subsequently scratched, with stewards questioning Xantos, who is a part-owner of the horse, and Kelly. Samples were taken from She’s A Youeffoh, as well as Kelly’s four other horses at the meeting, which included the impressive Freddie Fox Trot, who won the next race easily.
