The Thoroughbred Makeover's ASPCA Marketplace: Horse Shopping Made Simple

TB horse show warm up
The Retired Racehorse Project's Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium has seen an increase in participation since its inception, but there is so much more to the six-day event than simply the competition. The ASPCA Marketplace was designed to be a one-stop-shop for those looking to add a Thoroughbred to their lives. People searching for a new horse can browse the catalog and website for a horse that catches their eye, then, once at the Makeover, watch horses be worked and test ride them.

Created to take the stress out of horse shopping, the Marketplace has matched over 100 horse-and-rider pairs since its inception – though not all of them found each other at the Kentucky Horse Park. Three riders who found their partners at the Makeover share their stories in the latest Off-Track Thoroughbred magazine.

Each of the riders were successful in finding a horse that fit them well, thanks to the extensive photos and videos available on the Marketplace dashboard — even though they all matched with different 'types' of horses.

This year, the Marketplace will allow ads not only from Makeover trainers looking to sell their horses, but from non-profits with Makeover-eligible horses available for adoption.
