The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board openings for two Veterinary Officers

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) is the Regulatory Body for horseracing in Ireland, responsible for the integrity, reputation and licensing of Irish horseracing. Two Veterinary Officer positions have arisen within the Veterinary/Anti-Doping Department – one a full-time role based in the IHRB Offices on the Curragh, working in the office and on the racecourse, and the other a racecourse-based role working for 50 days.

JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Chief Veterinary Officer/Head of Anti-Doping (CVO), the Veterinary Officers will be required to perform regulatory work to safeguard the integrity of horseracing both on and off the racecourse. The work will include:

  • RacedayVeterinaryOfficer
  • Out-of-competitiontesting
  • Other off course testing as required o Post-licensingstableinspections

Additional responsibilities pertaining to the office-based role will include:

  • Project/programme support to the CVO, for example: Raceday injury data analysis, stable inspection programme, anti-doping programme development
  • Scientific,equineanti-dopingandveterinarysupporttotheDepartment,forexample: technical point of contact, monitoring relevant information in media, literature etc.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Be a qualified veterinary surgeon with relevant equine veterinary experience
  • Experience in racing is desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of equine legislation in particular with regards to medicines and horses
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills with proven evidence of leadership, and

supervisory experience

  • Be able to work under pressure with common sense, discretion and diplomacy o Be able to work with confidential sensitive information

The successful applicants will be required to work throughout the country and the role will involve travel and work at weekends. The remuneration package will reflect the responsibilities of the position and experience of applicants.
