The British Horseracing Authority are recruiting a Veterinary Officer in Surrey (South East)

The British Horseracing Authority is the single governing and regulatory body for British Horseracing which ensures the continuing integrity and successful development of the sport. It is the BHA’s role to act for and on behalf of the whole sport, ensuring the highest standards for the sport and participants, on and away from the racecourse. Our vision is simple: to build a brighter future for our sport, our horses and our people.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and motivated veterinary surgeon to join the existing team of friendly and supportive Veterinary Officers.

The successful candidate will be an experienced equine veterinary surgeon with excellent communication and decision-making skills and the ability to both work within and lead a team. The ideal person will be collaborative, inspirational and empathetic and approach regulatory challenges with a balanced and fair approach.

Working within the Department of Equine Regulation, Safety and Welfare and reporting to the Senior Veterinary Officer (West), you will be involved in raceday and non-raceday regulatory duties, including pre-race examinations and suitability to race assessments, anti-doping testing and welfare assessments in racehorses.

Given the nature of the role, you will need to have a full valid driving licence, preferably clean, and must be eligible for registration with the RCVS. You must be prepared to work with a high degree of flexibility, involving working unsociable hours including weekends and bank holidays.

This role is for 100 days and is based in Surrey.
