Opportunity for a regulatory vet with the Virginia Racing Commission

The Virginia Racing Commission is looking to expand veterinary services for the Colonial Downs Summer 2025 meet.

Key dates
Training: June 25 – September 14 (daily)
Racing: July 10 – September 13 (Weds–Sat, 41 race days)

Compensation & benefits

• $110/hour (base pay + differential) + overtime where applicable
• Travel costs paid per state guidelines (including per diem).
• Project bonus: Work 32–41 race days and earn a prorated cash bonus up to $5,000, paid at the end of the meet pursuant to guidelines.

Typical duties (shift-dependent)

1. Administrative notes, logs, and reports
2. Pre-race horse exams
3. Sample collection in the test barn
4. Out-of-competition tests (HIWU)
5. Training-hour oversight
6. Additional tasks as assigned
