Responsibilities:

Position tasks will vary depending on the time of year and race meet calendars. General responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the CDI EMD to foster regular communication with track management, state regulatory agencies, practicing veterinarians and industry stakeholders in order to ensure proactive development, deployment of, and enforcement of CDI Equine Safety and Welfare policies;
  • Observe morning training sessions and afternoon racing to ensure compliance with CDI Equine Safety and Welfare Initiatives;
  • Conduct incident investigation and coordination of data collection as needed to enhance equine health and safety;
  • Provide oversight of compliance with infectious disease control and quarantine procedures;
  • Assist with maintaining Equine Injury Database and CDI equine relates statistical data collection/calculations.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine/Veterinary Medical Doctor or equivalent degree
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in equine medicine (Racetrack experience preferred)
  • Experience with racing regulations and medical oversight; including knowledge of drug-testing protocols and comprehensive understanding of racing injuries
  • Ability to obtain a veterinary license and racing license in various States as required

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and excellent communication skills
  • Strong computer skills to include effective working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
  • Demonstrated expertise in making sound and valid decisions in high pressure situations

This position will be a full-time position. The individual will be required to work on weekends and holidays and other days during the week as needed to fulfil their duties and responsibilities. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Equine Safety and Integrity Veterinarian reports to the CDI EM
