Regulatory Veterinary Officer Emirates Racing Authority
The Emirates Racing Authority is seeking a highly motivated equine veterinarian to work with the ERA Steering Committee and the Stewards to ensure the integrity of horse racing and the welfare of racehorses in the UAE. The Emirates Racing Authority is responsible for the integrity of Thoroughbred and Purebred Arabian horse racing throughout the United Arab Emirates.
Applications are invited for the position of Regulatory Veterinary Officer
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Officiating at race meetings held at the five licensed racetracks in the UAE, in particular, organising and supervising sample collection by official racing veterinarians and technicians, to ensure compliance with ERA agreed protocols, inspecting horses pre- and post-race and as requested by the Stewards.
- This will require regular weekend work during the racing season (November-April).
- Participation in out of competition stable inspections, examination of horses and sampling thereof.
- Participation in non-race day trials and inspections.
- Providing scientific and veterinary advice to the ERA Steering Committee and the Stewards, including at racing inquiries and appeals.
- Reviewing current work practices and providing advice to the ERA Steering Committee and the Stewards regarding future development.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- A degree in veterinary science registrable in the UAE.
- A genuine interest in the welfare of racehorses and the integrity of racing.
- At least 2 years specialist clinical equine experience.
- Experience of racing or sports horse regulatory work would be an advantage.
- A good command of English, good communication and interpersonal skills and good organizational and management skills.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- The successful applicant will be expected to participate in on-going training and to represent the ERA at a number of international meetings.
- Contract employment will be offered to the successful candidate.
